Knowledges: Embodied, Entangled, Reclaimed

2023

Goldsmiths MFA Curating, London

Workshop

Across three days, 'Knowledges: Embodied, Entangled, Reclaimed' encompassed artist studio and gallery visits, close readings, film screenings, and presentations by students as well as guest artists and curators. The workshop explored interconnected themes of ritual, storytelling, oral histories, performance, mythology, and religion. Inspired by Trinh T Minh Ha’s essay, ‘Grandma’s Story,’ we explored the suggestion that stories create more stories. “What is transmitted from generation to generation is not only the stories, but the very power of transmission.”

Day 1 explored 'Magic, Mythology and Technology' with screenings by artists Jane Jin Kaisen and Sin Wai Kin

and presentations by curators Anna Colin and Iris Long. Day 2 encompassed 'Curatorial case studies and site visits' - we visited Gasworks, where we conversed with curator Rosa Tyhurst and artists Anna Perach, Lucia Pizzani, Michelle William Gamaker and Sriwhana Spong, and Sonya Dyer's exhibition 'Three Parent Child' at Somerset House. Day 3 'Performance, Rituals & Storytelling' included presentations by guest artist Taey Iohe, on 'What leaks out of our bodies, out of the planet?' and artist-curator Joseph Morgan Schofield on FUTURERITUAL, a platform dedicated to ritual practices, queer and performance culture. The workshop ended with ritual offerings related to our personal practices or cultures with which we resonate.
